PARAKAUPA LODGE.... Located at a short distance from the Laguna Canaima, the Parakaupa Lodge offers a fantastic view of the water falls of Laguna de Canaima and of the expansive plains with Tepuys in the distance. This camp is run by one of the descendants of "Jungle Rudy" (the legendary Dutchman founder who first set foot in Canaima in the 1950s), and is offered as a more economical alternative to Ucaima. About your stay The camp consists of 12 simple and comfortable rooms, all with private bath, fans, ice makers and mineral water. The food is a fare of typical Venezuelan home-style cooking. Cost includes lodging, meals, mineral water, and transfers to/from airport. Guided excursions on foot, boat, and plane with bilingual guides are optional and extra. Popular excursions offered at Campamento Parakaupa: bullet Salto El Sapo, waterfall and cave. Boat trips on Río Carrao in curiaras (indigenous canoes) from where you can admire the dense vegetation and the magnificence of the Tepuys. Mayupa. Pozo de La Felicidad (Pool of Happiness) with its crystalline waters, and Isla Orquídea from where you'll have impressive views of the Auyantepuy with the Angel Falls. Other excursions that can be organized include: Boat rides on the rivers Carrao and Churún, and walks through dense forests to the basin of Angel Falls. This can be done over 2 days with a night stay near Angel Falls, or in a single day. Flights over the Auyantepuy and Angel Falls. A visit to the indigenous community of Kavac (Pemon Indians), in the Kamarata valley, near the southeast basin of the Auyantepuy, an area famous for its canyons. The place although simple is very pleasant, very fresh and from any corner of the camp one can observe the breath taking view of Canaima and you can also observe some Tepuys. The gardens here are exotic and you will get to see many rare wild and exotic plants. Parakaupa has 14 comfortable rooms. distributed in 4 matrimonial suites, 2 double bed suites, 2 quadruple suites and 6 triple suites. A nice restaurant offers succulent and delicious homemade plates, without lacking the famous Chicken on stick, A typical dish of the area.
